The Advantages And Disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir by Jared Ho

We all come from different estates. Be it Potong Pasir, Toa Payoh or Woodlands, we are bound to have one similar aspect, ups and downs. This is otherwise known as the advantages and disadvantages and I would like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of living in Potong Pasir.

Thankfully the advantages of living in Potong Pasir trump the disadvantages. For example, there are different places of religious worship such as the Sri Siva Durga temple or the churches located within the St Andrews village. There are even a few Mosques in the neighboring estate of Toa payoh for the Muslims and even Shuang Lin temple to cater to the Taoist religious needs.

Besides places of worship, there is also a wide variety of food cuisine to cater to everybody’s preferences. A KFC fast food restaurant is located in the CC and a Macdonald’s fast food restaurant opposite it. Adjacent to the MacDonald’s is a soya bean shop called “N and B”. If you are one who loves to be spoiled for choice, there are two coffee shops located in the more prominent spots of Potong Pasir, one just opposite of the Indian Temple and another positioned towards the Potong Pasir MRT Station.

Due to its centralised location, Potong Pasir has a high accessibility rate, linking it to the North East Line and Circle line, making other popular shopping malls like NEX or Raffles Place easily accessible. People on the commute hardly have any complains as the trains are cooling and comfortable, apart from Peak Hour of course.

Potong Pasir community centre caters to virtually all of the residences needs, providing education centers for the young and old, fun activities for everyone and even a Basketball court for those who are sporty and athletic. Since there is also a Multi Purpose Hall, Marriage ceremonies can be held here. For kids between the ages of 2 to 6, there are even playgroup programs for them to learn and have fun.

Unfortunately, everything has a downside. Potong Pasir’s section of the large and vast Kallang river may be an eyesore to some since it is polluted, and there is a place to do 2.4 km run.People still feel the urge of shopping however, and there is not a single shopping mall in the area. Many of the residents are also rudely awakened by the morning traffic from the cars due to the time school starts at as the roads around Potong Pasir are very small, with only a single lane. This would therefore disrupt the many who are still sleeping.
